The main finger picking part had been kicking around for years, on a morning when it had been raining for days and days on Vancouver island, I sat down and spent 5 or 6 hours turning it into a song. I really like the bridge, where Zak Cohen supplied a tasty little lapsteel part. Originally it was just me and a drum machine, but near the end of the sessions I had my good friend Robin come in and lay down a tasty little drum track.

Right About The Rain

Meteors and comets
dinosaurs and saints
glitter glue and crayons
and water colour paints
stick figures swords at their sides
mounted on fine noble rides
surrounded completely
until your love can greet me
and I’ll look in your eyes
and await your reply
and you say
“You were right about the rain”

Rocket ships and magic
the singing and the sounds
but don’t you miss being on your knees
forehead to the ground
and I know now you don’t feel so free
and you know now that’s not what it means
to be surrounded completely
Oh why won’t you come meet me?
and we’ll open our eyes into paradise skies
And I’ll say
“You were right about the rain”

There’s chaos in the chorus
of drops upon the roof
and runoff from the gutters
and this faith that you call proof
and it’s OK to wake up alone
alive and playing music in the morning
surrounded completely
until my angel meets me
and I’ll close my eyes cause I know your reply
and you say
“You were right about the rain”
Ya you say
“You were right about the rain”
